At an altitude of 1,600 m to 2,500m, FLAINE “ski in - ski out”resort, is based in the north of French Alps.
Discover the pleasure of a varied glide enter skiing on piste, freeride and freestyle on 265km of runs on the Grand Massif ski area. Flaine is committed to the environment with the environmental observatory since 2008 and the Grand Massif ski area is the first ski area in the world to bear the Green Globe certification.
At 1 hour from Geneva airport, Flaine’s resort centre is car free for safety and comfort - all the shops, services and ski lifts are at your feet.
Flaine’s resort is awarded the 20th Century Heritage and some buildings are classified as “Historic Monument”. It’s also an open-air museum with Picasso, Dubuffet and Vasarely sculptures.
This positioning as an artistic resort is due to Marcel Breuer. A Hungarian-American architect and designer who was born in 1902 and died in 1981, he was one of the pioneers of modern architecture and made a significant contribution to the Bauhaus movement. Breuer is famous for his contributions to functionalist architecture, particularly for his iconic designs using reinforced concrete and tubular steel. Among his most famous works are the Wassily armchair and the Cesca armchair, both of which have become icons of modern design. Breuer also designed numerous architectural projects around the world.
Flaine is an outstanding example of Breuer's modernist approach, characterised by the bold use of raw concrete and the distinctive geometry of his structures. Designed in the 1960s, the Flaine resort features buildings and public spaces that blend harmoniously into the mountain landscape, while providing a striking contrast with their angular forms and robust materiality.
