The path climbs up through the alpine pastures where Abondance cows graze, and with a bit of luck you can spot chamois frolicking on the foothills of Roc d'Enfer.
Tips for the photographer
The sunset from Col Ratti is often worth the detour, especially if you're lucky and Mont Blanc turns pink.
Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
1/ Start from the Col de l'Encrenaz parking lot 2/ Take the path behind the Ancrenaz bar 3/ At the intersection, take the left-hand path towards the hamlet of en l'Aup and Col Ratti 4/ At the hamlet of en l'Aup, stay on the path that crosses the hamlet, then continue to the Col de la Basse. 5/ At the Col de la Basse, continue on the path which climbs straight up into the mountain pasture until you reach the Col Ratti.
