La Croix of Chamrousse
Chamrousse

Located at 2250m altitude, the Croix of Chamrousse overlooks the resort and the Grenoble valley.
It is accompanied by a weather station, the third highest in Europe and a monumental Cross. The history of this cross is unknown but it is no less one of the emblematic places of Chamrousse. It dates from the 17th century and was once made of wood. At its feet, Roman medals had been discovered.
New in 2023-2024 - development of the La Croix site with :
- a picnic and relaxation area,
- pedestrian paths leading to new viewpoints with orientation tables and panoramic views (Grenoble city, Oisans et Belledonne mountains),
- an Himalayan footbridge (access to Belledonne and Robert lakes viewpoint)
- a giant zipline to the bottom of the resort,
- a free smartphone game "Chamrousse Explor Games" which guides you through the adventure from the Environment centre in Chamrousse 1650 - Recoin,
- information panels about geology also enhance the discovery of the summit of the resort.
In winter as in summer, it is a place to go to reach for the sky and admire the sunsets, the starry nights and the illuminated valley.
It is a privileged starting point for hiking in any season but also for downhill mountain biking in summer.
The mountain restaurant "La Croix de Chamrousse" allows you to enjoy the view from the terrace while dining there after a walk or skiing.
Like the winter sports, which is inseparable from the image of the Alpine mountains, the theme of landscaping is a major challenge for Chamrousse. It is distinguished both by the great variety of its sites (summit, plateau, ridge, etc.), places of tourist activity, and by a diversity of atmospheres, thanks in particular to a preserved environmental setting.
