When the charismatic Jim Kerr's band debuted in 1979, their songs were in the cold, experimental new wave vein of David Bowie's albums. New Gold Dream (1982), which struck a balance between this research and a more pop style of writing, opened the door to international success, which has never been denied, with over 60 million records sold to date.
