Dans le même temps, Marko Grabež rencontra la célébrité comme acteur sur les écrans de cinéma et de télévision serbes. Un nouveau chapitre musical s’est ouvert pour eux en 2017, lorsqu’ils firent la rencontre d’Ivana Miljković (synthés, chant) et Emilija Djordjević (basse, chant) et créèrent le groupe KOIKOI, en s’inspirant du nom d’un petit poisson japonais qui était dans un aquarium près d’eux.

Ce quartet indie-folk puissant s’enracine profondément dans la psyché et les paroles que leur ont inspirées d’autres pionniers rock serbes. Ils furent choisis par le label local Pop Depresija pour le dernier morceau de la compilation Hali Gali, sortie à la fin de l’année 2019, qui les fit connaître comme le meilleur des 8 groupes de cet album, les menant à une rapide reconnaissance internationale lorsqu’ils rejoignent le label indie slovène Moonlee Records, connu entre autres pour Borghesia, Repetitor et Žen.

Avec d’excellents titres tels que « Ogledalo je zrcalo » (Le miroir est un reflet) et « Misisipi » (Mississippi), KOIKOI gagna l’estime du public indie rock de toute la région des Balkans slavophones et suscita une grande curiosité avec l’annonce d’un album à venir. Au début de l’été 2021, avec la sortie par Moonlee des dix titres du LP « Pozivi u stranu » (Appels à l’aide), leur message devint encore plus fort et clair. Aujourd’hui, KOIKOI est le groupe de rock slovène le plus prometteur, et ne devrait pas tarder à connaître le devant de la scène.
